Panel discussion with Christina Werner (artist), Thomas Edlinger (artistic director of the donaufestival) and Raimar Stange (free cultural journalist and curator)
Moderation & Concept: Katharina Brandl

What actually happened to the phenomenon of post-democracy?In 2011, as the exhibition "After Democracy" (curated by Raimar Stange) was dedicated to the topic in Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, the term was still in everyone's mouths. The fundamental mechanisms evaluated by Colin Crouch under the term in theidentically named book (first in English in 2004 and in German in 2008) are not foreign to us today: Democratic elections, which will admittedly be carried out, yet deteriorate into a showdown of PR strategies, as the ideal of social co-determination, or the shift of centers of power towards (not democratically legitimized) global corporations.

The new discourse series of Kunstraum Niederoesterreich #tb is based on the well-known hashtag #throwback in social media. By focusing on previous exhibition projects of the last ten years in Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, micro-histories of the present exhibition system are currently being documented: Which time-diagnostic concepts were effective then or even discourse determining? And finally, how do current artistic practices relate to their time? In the course of the first issue of the series, the artist Christina Werner, who deals with the staging strategies and networks of right-wing populist and extreme right-wing parties in Europe in several projects, will also be discussing Thomas Edlinger, artistic director of the Donaufestival, whose edition this year is titled "New Society" and Raimar Stange, free cultural journalist and curator of the exhibition "After Democracy" (2011). The event will be moderated by Katharina Brandl.
